Gas Turbine Package Renovation and Life Extension:   Sometimes gas turbines can be expensive machines to remove and replace. No matter the size or capacity of the machine the budget necessary to achieve the large removal and repacment exercise subsequent disturbance to an installation or process plant will be significant, particularly in difficult to access locations. It is quite feasible that for installations with finitie future utility life or end of field production life considerations full replacment of an ageing turbine machine is something that may not attain economical advantage   For such commercially unjustifiable occasions, refurbishment and enhancement of exisitng operational machines can prove to be the more cost effective solution. Such refurbishment and recovery activitities generally bypass the need for enormous workscopes, mechanical handling and civils works associated with replacement where the budget is instead channelled toward recovering the integrity of the exisitng subject machine.    We include an example of such a renovation and life extentension project undertaken on behalf of Shell Petroluem Nigeria. The subject machine had not operated for ten years prior to the activity and in addtion during that time many of its system devices had been svangenged to support other machines   During 2011 GTR undertook a full renovation of the subject engine including installation of replacement core engine, rectification of all package systems defects, general repair, alternator intervention and reinstatement followed by recomissioning of the turbine itself. The result, for the last 8 years post intervention the subject machine has again become a prime contributor to the local plant power delivery.
